POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Associate Director (AD) of Corporate Business Development works within Strategic Programs and Business Development of the College of Engineering. Strategic Programs and Business Development serves as a gateway to external partnerships with the goal of accelerating innovation and helping to shape future engineering and scientific leaders, through support of research and projects with faculty and students. Using a collaborative approach and entrepreneurial spirit, the AD works cross-functionally on a multitude of research areas across Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Materials, Technology Management and Bioengineering. The Associate Director of Corporate Business Development is responsible for prospecting and engaging new corporate partnerships with the purpose of creating a pipeline of corporate support for UCSB's College of Engineering. Partnerships are developed through expansion of the Corporate Affiliates Program (CAP) and via development of direct linkages with individual faculty. The Associate Director is the first contact with companies to encourage their interest in funding research, supporting student projects and communicating with UCSB students about potential career opportunities.

The AD brings industry leaders together with world-class faculty to augment their internal research capabilities, leverage federal opportunities, provide access to world-class facilities, or assist with investigating novel technologies. Fostering collaborations with external industry, the AD develops custom proposals and programs to meet those needs through on and off campus visits by industry, board meetings, and topic-specific events. Provides a strategic interface between campus, the College of Engineering and external industrial customers and creates significant advances in use-inspired research and commercialization of new technologies.

As a part of Strategic Programs, the Corporate Affiliates Program (CAP) is a fee-based program at UC Santa Barbara that is dedicated to the development of building specialized, strategic relationships which bridge industry and corporate interests with cutting-edge science and technologies with UCSB's engineering departments. The activities of the CAP program leverage the considerable expertise and interdisciplinary strengths of UC Santa Barbara's
highly acclaimed faculty, scientists, engineers and researchers. The purpose of CAP is to continue to educate dedicated corporations about engineering and sciences at UCSB, to solicit their involvement in capstone activity, and to enhance UCSB's rankings.
