Aviation Economist & Financial Analyst/Senior Analyst

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 65,000 pilots at 40 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Senior Analyst for our office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. The Senior Analyst delivers economic, financial, and contract information; analyses; and, recommendations to elected and appointed pilot representatives and committee volunteers at ALPA carriers with memberships typically ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 pilots. They provide strategic and technical support to a portfolio of ALPA carriers, operating with little direction and ensuring quality standards are met on all deliverables under their portfolio of properties. They also establish and sustain effective relationships with pilot representatives and company counterparts, mentoring and guiding analysts with less experience.

Travel: 25 - 50%; sporadically 50 - 75%.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area, e.g., business administration, economics, finance, or related discipline, from an accredited college or university required; or, the equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree or an MBA preferred.
  • Ten (10) or more years of professional experience with at least eight (8) pertaining to financial and/or economic analysis strongly preferred. At management discretion, significant and in-depth, directly applicable experience in the airline industry, collective bargaining, and/or post-graduate education may be substituted for some of the above requirements.
  • Knowledge of air transportation economics, scheduling, and pilot labor agreements sufficient to develop airline contract comparisons, cost out negotiating proposals, and make recommendations regarding negotiating proposals and strategy strongly preferred.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to quickly reduce a problem to its key components and develop unique solutions.
  • Self-starter able to meet assigned deadlines, work independently on multiple projects with varying degrees of complexity, and produce outstanding results for all.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with internal staff, external contacts, pilots, pilot committees, and governing boards.
  • Software: Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint required.

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)
