About the Position:
The College of Business and Economics (CBE) is committed to the guiding themes of program quality, balancing theory and practice and expanding our outreach and visibility. We leverage the diversity and entrepreneurial spirit of Southern California to produce globally-aware business leaders through innovative teaching and high-quality applied research. The Dean's office is seeking an exceptional individual to join the team as a Business Advisor (Student Services Professional I-Range A). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Business Advising Center the Business Advisor provides academic advisement and support to undergraduate students in the College of Business and Economics. Advises prospective, newly admitted, and continuing undergraduate students on their major degree requirements, course selection, evaluation of transcripts and general university policies and procedures. Advises students on academic probation. Assists with the development of the College of Business and Economics' retention programs. Assists with and participates in special programs, student success initiatives, and workshops such as probation and new student orientations /seminars. Manages assigned population of students and coordinates activities and intervention strategies based on their needs. Works with existing programs to encourage cross campus collaboration of resources and finds innovative means to facilitate retention and graduation. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or other job-related field. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior, as well as research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information. Foundational knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data. Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews. Ability to clearly express ideas and make recommendations. Ability to write clear and concise reports. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year intervention programming and development experience. Previous experience advising an undergraduate student population with the ability to advise or counsel students individually and in groups. Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of an undergraduate advisement office.
