The University of Colorado Denver - College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking applications for the position of Finance and Accounting Senior Professional. The Finance and Accounting Senior Professional is responsible for coordinating gift accounting functions and performing various financial tasks associated with the auxiliary programs in the College. This includes assisting with accounts receivable and PeopleSoft financial statement reconciliation with student information system financial information; helping to conduct financial training to CLAS departmental administrative staff and faculty; assisting the CLAS Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration in the maintenance of the College auxiliary and gift operating budgets and revenue accounts; and supporting departments with questions in collaboration with the CLAS Finance Team. This position formally reports to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration.
Finance and Accounting Senior Professional
What you will do:
Coordination of CLAS Accounting Functions - 20%
- Collaborates with the CLAS Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, accounting staff, department leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with accounting procedures. Regularly reviews auxiliary and gift fund transactions, analyzing expenditures for appropriateness and verifying fund availability.
- Ensure all necessary accounting documentation is completed in an accurate and timely fashion.
- Collaborates with the Central Finance Office to ensure that financial transactions are recorded properly against University speedtypes.
- Administers cash collections for the college in collaboration with the CLAS Finance Team. Deposits CLAS revenue payments for auxiliary and gift funds within 24 hours of receiving them. Prepares the cash receipt, obtains appropriate signatures, and delivers to the Bursar's Office for deposit. Checks the speedtype to ensure the deposit went through correctly.
- Prepares, reviews, or corrects transactions and data within the CU Marketplace system, including resolving discrepancies, creating new vendors, and submitting invoice payments as needed.
Auxiliary and Gift Accounting - 50%
- Audits auxiliary and gift speedtypes to ensure compliance with donor intent, CU Foundation policies, and university guidelines; reviews expenditures for appropriateness and addresses deficits or underspending.
- Prepares and processes correcting entries, payroll expense transfers, and journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and justification.
- Coordinates with campus finance, budget, advancement, and CU Foundation personnel to establish new accounts, input budgets, and complete annual uploads for auxiliary and gift speedtypes.
- Assists with speedtypes identified by the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, in collaboration with campus finance and the CU Foundation.
- Manages scholarship processing; works with college gift fund managers to ensure timely awarding and disbursement of scholarship funds.
- Partners with campus finance, financial aid, scholarships, and the bursar's office to resolve issues related to scholarship or tuition/fee support.
- Reviews monthly Accounts Receivable reconciliations prepared by CLAS Finance staff to support internal controls and maintain proper segregation of duties.
Training & Coordination & Communication - 10%
- In coordination with the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration and other CLAS Dean's Office Accounting personnel assesses overall training needs of personnel within CLAS. This is accomplished through both formal (e.g., surveys) and informal (e.g., direct feedback) methods. Implements and develops training programs in areas specific to CLAS personnel (e.g., internal reporting procedures, access to systems, etc.) especially for new department administrative staff.
- Trains CLAS faculty and staff in the generation and interpretation of financial reports.
- Trains CLAS faculty and staff on the use of the Scholarship Universe platform, including managing secure access, setting up scholarship committees, and facilitating the awarding process on an annual basis for each scholarship in the platform.
- Assists department administrative staff and account managers in tracking and understanding auxiliary and gift fund budget and expenses.
- Facilitates regular meetings with departmental administrative staff to present training related to accounting and procurement procedures, as well as updates to ensure that departments have the most up to date information necessary to perform their jobs, in coordination with the CLAS Finance Team.
Financial Reporting - 20%
- Develops and disseminates financial management reports and tools for auxiliary and gift funds as requested by stakeholders within multiple University financial and data systems. (e.g.: CU-SIS, Tableau, M-Fin, Excel, Access)
- Assists with generating monthly financial reports for all fund types.
- Assists and collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration and Finance and Accounting Program Director with ad hoc projects and analysis requests as necessary
- Crosstrain on other CLAS Finance duties, such as petty cash and gift card program administration. Various other duties or tasks as assigned and/or needed.
Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- A bachelor's degree in business administration, business, finance, accounting, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- Two (2) years of professional level experience performing accounting and financial responsibilities.
Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
- Professional work experience in a Higher Education or government office setting.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft applications.
- Experience generating, modifying, and automating financial reports.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $66,600 - $70,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
